Luke 8:1 Women who accompany Jesus.
Afterward, He went throughout every city and village, preaching and brining the good news of the kingdom of God. With Him were the twelve and some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had come out, and Joanna, the wife of Chuza, Herod’s steward, and Susanna, and many others, who supported Him with their possessions.
Women were not forbidden to follow him, and the women were treated equal, just like men. Jesus does not show favoritism. He loves us all the same. I don’t want to get too much into this, but I do want women to know their worth.
Luke 8:19 The Mother and Brothers of Jesus – Then His mother and His brothers came to Him but could not reach Him because of the crowd. Someone told Him, “Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, desiring to see you. He answered them, ” My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.
Jesus says in Luke 3:34 that whoever does the will of my father is my mother, sister and brother. In Luke 8:21 He also says that my mother and brother are these who hear the word of God and does it.
These women were doing what is most important for our lives, they were slowing down, taking time to sit at the feet of Jesus. To hear what the Lord had to say.
Proverbs 4:20-23 My son, attend to my words, incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart, for they are life to those who find them and health to all their body. Keep your heart with all diligence for out of it are the issues of life.
We have gates to our heart, and we are to guard our hearts by what we hear, see and speak.
These women did what is most important for life, they were filling their hearts with his word which brings life to us and health of our bodies. They had stopped what they were doing and went and sat at the feet of Jesus listing to what the master had to say. Not only did they sit and listen, but they also applied what he taught to their lives. Jesus called them mother, sister and brothers. Luke 8:21. In Luke 10:38-42 is the story of Mary setting at the feet of Jesus. Martha who is Mary’s sister who was busy about serving got upset because Mary would not get up and help Martha. Martha came to Jesus and said Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Jesus answers, “Martha you are anxious and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed. Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Ladies, we must stop, slow down and get still and listen to our Lord. Filling our hearts with Gods word which brings Proverbs 4:20-23 into a reality in our lives.
In Luke 8:1 The women who accompanied Jesus did not only follow him throughout the cities and villages, but they supported him with their possessions. These women gave to his ministry and supported him. Giving is a part of our ministry, we can give in many ways, but tithing is an important part.
I want you to look who is the first amount the women listed here in this passage of Luke 8:1. None other than Mary Magdelene. This lady plays a very big part in the ministry of Jesus and one of his loyal followers. Mary carried the message of Jesus. She is the one Jesus first appeared to after his resurrection. She is also thought to be the woman at the well who also went and ministered to the men of the city saying come see a man who told me everything I ever did. Mary had met her master.
God knows our hearts; it doesn’t matter where we have been or what we have done. Once you meet the master it all changes. The slate is wiped clean, your sins are washed away, and you become white as snow. These sins are remembered no more, and we aren’t to keep bringing up our past but look to a clearer and brighter future.
I thought I had messed up my life so much that I could never minister for my master. But when I read and study the New Testament and Old Testament, I find that I am wrong. Mary Magdalene is a perfect example of becoming a changed woman with a message to deliver. In my study of Mary, I believe she carried one of the most important messages in the bible.
Ladies we all have a ministry, just be brave enough to find out what it is and then do it.
My prayer for you ladies and all that that reads this that you never feel like you’ve messed up so much that you cannot do a work for our Lord. I pray that God opens your heart and eyes to see the Light that he has placed in each and every one of you. That you will not Hide it but let all the world see your own beautiful light that he has placed inside of you. In Jesus Name I pray.
Luke 8:16
No one, when he lights a candle, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed but sets it on a candlestick so that those who enter may see the light.
Ladies let your light shine for all the world to see.
